Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM) group is an intervention designed to facilitate trauma recovery among women with histories of exposure to emotional, sexual, and physical abuse. Building on cognitive restructuring, psychoeducational, and skills-training techniques, the gender-specific 12 week/3 month long group emphasizes the development of coping skills and social support. It addresses both short- and long-term consequences of violent victimization, including mental health symptoms, especially posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression, and substance abuse. Specific domestic violence topics addressed are warning signs of abuse, risk factors for domestic violence, safety planning around domestic violence, the effects of domestic violence on adult survivors and the impact of domestic violence on children.
